We started this journey in 2017, searching for our own little hideaway - a place to recharge and unwind in the lush, green countryside of Aveyron. We were covered in mud and soaked from the rain when Maurice, a local, took us on a drive through the cloudy foothills of the Conques Valley to the village of Bessayrie. Steven’s last name is Bes, so we figured it was worth checking out! Arriving at La Bessayrie, we discovered an abundance of untouched nature, abandoned houses, some sheds, and a remarkable tree. Nature had taken over. The story goes that, for over 10 years, not a living soul had set foot on this property. One look and we knew our gut feeling was mutual: this place is extraordinary and we want to be part of it. 


We took a leap of faith and let go of our Michelin-star restaurant Het Land in Belgium in 2020. With as our ethos to 'always look on the bright side’, we decided to go and explore what else was out there for us.  

When we bought La Bessayrie, friends and family were not surprised we came up with another renovation project. Wine was popped and poured while brainstorming about our exciting new chapter. Our plans changed a few times throughout the years, many times in fact - we just couldn’t stop talking about it! Together with a bunch of beautiful souls that we are fortunate to call our friends & family, we built La Bessayrie with our own bare hands. That's what makes La Bessayrie so special and why we love it so much. 

Today we are ready to share this special little spot with you and we welcome your warm company. We truly hope La Bessayrie will give you as much joy as it gives us every day. ​
